Part 4 The Lord’s Mighty Hand Joshua 4 When it comes to swimming I much prefer a body of water that is clear, fresh, and clean over a water that is covered in algae and dirty. Usually water that is flowing is much cleaner than water that is still and stagnant. When God blesses us, He expects us to move those blessings on to the next person down stream from us. We cause problems in the process though when we hoard up those blessings for only ourselves. I challenge you today to be a river of blessing today not a stagnant pond holding back what God wants you to share with others. Last night during our Bible study someone pointed out the importance of this verse within the overall context of chapters 3 and 4. The whole purpose of God giving the people this land and these great signs is so that not just Israel but al peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the Lord is mighty. Never forget that the great works of grace God does in our lives are meant to be mighty rivers of blessings overflowing from our hearts into the hearts of the people around us. We never want to become stagnant by hoarding up the blessings God gives us and not sharing with others by testifying to the mighty deeds of the hand of the Lord. God works in your life so that you will in turn show others His glory by the words you speak and the actions you take. He always intended for Israel to be a witness to the world of His glorious grace and power. The same is true for His people the church. We carry out our purpose and mission as we do the good works we have opportunity to do each day so that others will be able to join us in praising the power of God in our lives and theirs. How sad it would be for us to dam up our hearts and not allow His blessings to flow from us to those around us that God intends for us to reach for His great name. Let us do as Jesus commands us in Matthew 5:13-16 today and let our light so shine before others that they will see our good works and give glory to our Heavenly Father! Matthew 5:13–16 (ESV) “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
